BRIDAL TANS

Your Wedding Day will be one of the most special days of your life and every bride wants to be looking picture perfect and feeling their best! A pretty sunless glow can highlight your gown, even out your skin tone, brighten your eyes and make your bridal makeup POP!

At Kylie Hay, I am devoted to the details. I promise a beautiful, natural looking tan with a streak free finish. Know that you are in safe hands as your tan is custom blended to suit your individual skin tone and undertone. I also take other things into consideration like season, photo locations, dress colour, and hair/eye colour. All of these factors are very important in getting the colour perfect for your special day.

Bridal tans should be treated differently to “everyday tanning”. They should be done on the lighter side and never be dark. After all, your tan is not walking down the aisle, your hair, makeup, skin and bridal gown must come together to create a beautifully balanced look.

For wedding tans, it’s always best to go with an 8 hour solution rather than a rapid rinse solution, so either book a daytime tan where you have enough time to leave the solution on for 8 hours and rinse before bed, or book in the evening where you can leave the tan on overnight and rinse in the morning. (Just be aware that sleeping in your tan can leave marks, so only sleep in your tan as a last resort or if time is a factor). Of course, I am more than happy to do a rapid rinse solution on you, but it is always best to trial first to ensure we all know how your skin reacts with rapid rinse solutions.

Often brides come in for several tans leading up to their BIG day. Engagement photos, bridal shower, and hens nights are all great opportunities to experiment with colour to get the perfect look for your wedding!

What to know about preparing for, and looking after you tan.

Many brides also love to take advantage of our other services for their Wedding Day! If your brows need a bit of love, book in for a TrueBrow™ Design. Or even if they need a little repair and healing, you can start the TrueBrow™ Program months before your wedding to reach your brow goals.
Cosmetic teeth whitening is also popular, especially our "Teeth & Tan Packgage".

BRIDAL TAN TRIALS

Trial tans are highly recommended as it gives us a chance to see how the tan wears on your skin, and to see if we need to adjust the tone or depth of colour. This way you know you are 100% happy with your colour prior to your special day. You will also have enough time to see the true longevity and fade, which is important if you want the tan to last for your honeymoon.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A BRIDAL TRIAL TAN?

It’s best to get your trial tan 3-6 weeks prior if you have not been to me before, but no later than 2 weeks prior to your wedding. This is to ensure that you are completely happy with the colour, and also to make sure there is enough time for all the remaining tan to be completely removed before getting your tan for your wedding day (You never want to spray tan over an existing spray tan).

I recommend co-ordinating your spray tan trial 2 days before your hair and makeup trial. This will give you an overall perspective on your complete look. Try your dress on and take photos and a video to ensure the tan looks as good on screen as it does in real life. Your wedding photos are forever so it is important to look great in those too!

HOW LONG IS A TRIAL APPOINTMENT?

Extra time is allocated to the bridal trial tan service to allow for a thorough consultation.

During this time, we will discuss the finer details of your wedding, from your dress style and colour, to whether your bridesmaids will also be tanned, or if your partner is considering a spray tan as well. A quick skin analysis is performed so we can guarantee the perfect colour for your skin tone.

The whole appointment will last around 45-60 minutes.

THE SPRAY TAN

All disposable items (strapless bras, hair nets, g-strings & sticky feet) are provided for you. The spray tan should take approximately 10 minutes all up, with an additional 5-10 minutes for drying time and finishing touches.

Once the spray tan application has been completed and is completely dry on your skin, I will make sure that all areas have been covered and sprayed evenly and will then touch up any necessary areas if needed.

A finishing powder will then be applied to complete your spray tan. The powder will set the tan in the areas where skin touches skin, and the areas that sweat the most. You will love that you also don't feel as sticky in these areas.

I will then run through the aftercare process and will explain the pre and aftercare tanning products and accessories that can also be purchased at the salon.

Everything will be recorded on your personal consult card that will have all your specific spray tan colour details on it. This makes things nice and easy when you return for your wedding day tan. You have enough to remember so we want to make this experience as stress-free as possible.

HOW MUCH IS A BRIDAL TRIAL TAN?

This longer appointment costs $50, and it includes a take-home exfoliating mitt so that you can scrub your trial tan away before your Wedding Day tan.

WEDDING DAY TAN

Book your spray tan 2-3 days before your wedding day (eg: most Saturday weddings brides come Wednesday late afternoon/evening or anytime Thursday). After 2-3 days your tan will be fully developed and will have reached its optimal colour. There will be no residual bronzer left on the skin that may rub off on your dress.

TANNING TIPS

To help you look your best on your special day, I have some tips to help make you say “I do” to the perfect spray tan!

* Don’t book your spray tan at the last minute! Leaving this important detail for the last minute is not a good idea, especially if you are a first-time spray tanner.

* Do not get any spray tans the day of any dress fitting. This can result in bronzer getting on the gowns, which the bridal shop will not appreciate.

* If you’re getting manicures and pedicures, book them for before your spray tan or ensure that the nail technician does not use any oils on your skin, and ask that they eliminate the massage part of their procedure (as this may lighten your tan in those areas). Always try to get pedicures, waxing & anything that can inhibit your tan development, one day prior.

* Make sure you find the right spray tan artist. Not all spray tans are the same, which is why it’s important to find someone who can customise your colour to your unique skin tone. When it comes to wedding spray tans, it’s worth it to pay more for a quality experience and results. Now is NOT the time to do a booth or a self tanner. You want your spray tan applied by a trained professional. This ensures a perfect application. This is not the time to shop for price. You are looking for quality and experience. They will also know exactly how to coach you through the pre-spray tan prep and the aftercare.

* Even if you have spray tanned 100 times, every salon uses different tanning solutions. All of these products have different ingredients, cosmetic bronzers, and fade times. If you have any skin conditions like Eczema, Rosacea, Vitiligo, Psoriasis, it is always best to speak to your doctor or a dermatologist before being spray tanned. If given approval, a patch test can be done on a small area of your skin first, to make sure there aren’t any adverse reactions.

Let’s Talk Pre-Wedding Festivities!

Most brides need to consider the events they have planned for their wedding weekend as some events can negatively affect your spray tan results. Discuss your planned activities with your spray tan professional. The most common events are:

* Massages after your spray tan session, or on the same day of your appointment, and certain spa treatments.

* A tropical climate or destination wedding.

* Beach and water activities.

FAQ

SHOULD MY BRIDESMAIDS GET SPRAY TANS?

Ensure your bridesmaids/bridal party are a similar colour to you. Preferably all book into the same salon (book your trial together so you can compare). We have all seen wedding pictures where there is one person that really stands out. This is where your eye naturally goes. Various shades of medium will create a nicely balanced look so avoid having some members dark tanned, and some light tanned, if possible. If your bridesmaids’ dresses are light coloured, a little bit of tan helps the dresses show up better in the photos. A good photographer can do some tonal adjustments to offset this, but guests’ photos will not have this ability.

Also check your husband-to-be’s complexion. If he’s very fair then you don’t want to wash him out and vice versa, if he has a dark complexion, you don’t want to look washed out.

WILL THE COLOUR RUB OFF ON MY DRESS?

The bronzer in spray tans is a cosmetic colour that rinses off in the first shower. Sometimes there can be residual bronzer on the skin if not fully rinsed off. Usually, by the second shower/rinse off all the bronzer is removed from the body. This is why it is important to spray tan 2-3 days prior to your wedding and other wedding related events. Place talc-free powder under your arms and on the skin around the edges of your dress.  If you do get hot, then the powder will help eliminate potential staining due to sweat or rubbing. If bronzer does transfer to clothing, it will come off in the wash.

WILL I LOOK ORANGE?

The most commonly asked question! The answer is NO!

As an experienced spray tan artist, your spray tan solution is customised specifically for your skin tone, so you will avoid any brassiness or that dreaded “O” word.

HOW LONG WILL MY TAN LAST, WILL IT LAST FOR MY HONEYMOON?

With proper preparation and care, tans can last 5-10 days on average. It will fade away gradually with the renewal of your skin cells.

You can extend the life of your tan with proper skin care and using a tan extender such as Colour Me Bronze Tan Extender.

It is also highly recommended to use a pH balanced body wash and a good moisturiser to deeply nourish your skin and to keep your bronze looking even better.

Please remember that a spray tan does not protect you from UVA and UVB rays from the sun. It is imperative to still use a spray tan friendly sunscreen to protect your skin.

WILL A SPRAY TAN COVER MY TAN LINES?

Yes and no. A spray tan will soften the tan lines and help them blend in, but they won't go away completely. Hard lined burns and distinct strap lines such as halter style swimsuits can be a challenge to blend in. Be very careful out in the sun in the weeks leading up to your wedding. Wear bandeau/strapless type bikini tops to prevent any tan lines if you will be wearing a strapless wedding dress. Not only are sunburns incredibly damaging to our skin, but the peel can sometimes occur 2-3 weeks after you get the initial burn. You never want to spray tan over a burn or peeling skin. In fact, it will make it look a lot worse. So please be

careful in the sun leading up to your wedding.
